8. Gueuze 1978 ($1.068 per ml)
Cantillon, the Belgian brewer, bottled this special Gueuze back in 1978 during the Carter administration. It was sold at Boston’s Skinner auction house.
Each of this old beer was sold for $397 per 12-oz bottle. It makes it worth $1.068 per ml.
However, auctioned items tend to leave buyers with remorse. Some of them felt like this beer smells better than it tastes. I guess it is only fair to say that their expectations were high.
Some of Cantillon’s finest products, including this one, can be found at the Brussels Gueuze Museum in Belgium. That is a high level of commitment towards brewery, right there.
