11. First Folio – $6.1 million ($8.2 million in 2016)
You wouldn’t expect books to be in the seven figure range. But the number 11 on our list is worth $6.1 million ($8.2 million today) and here’s why:
The book was written by the legendary William Shakespeare. Also known as Mr. William Shakespeare’s Comedies, Histories, & Tragedies, the original copy of First Folio from the year of 1623 was available only for £1-2 in its early years.
However, its complete copy has become one of the most expensive books among collectors of modern age. As per survey, it is stated that only 228 complete copies out of 750 are available now in the global market.
In the year of 2001, one copy caught the attention of Microsoft co-founder, Paul Allen. He purchased a copy of this book for value of $6,166,000 at the auction venue of Christie’s in New York.
