5. One World Trade Center, USA ($3.8 billion)
After the September 11 tragedy back in 2001, it took more than a decade to rebuild the World Trade Center. Instead of keeping the original twin towers, they only built one tower: the One World Trade Center (WTC).
Despite the controversies, this building has become the new face of the ground zero. It reflects the resurrection and freedom emerging through the world’s tragedy, which is why it is also known as the Freedom Tower.
The One WTC was built in 2012. The construction cost was around $3.8 billion. That put it as the fifth most expensive building in the world. This building has 104 floors and 541-meter height. Designed by David Childs, it is currently owned by The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
It was built with a fortified base to make it less vulnerable from similar attacks. However, its fortified design gives some people the “fear” vibe which leads to its other infamous nickname, the Fear Tower.
