The most expensive carpet in the world is The Clark Sickle-Leaf Carpet which was sold for $33.7 million at Sotheby’s auction in New York last June.
The 17th century rug approximately 8-feet-9-inches by 6-feet-5-inches and it isn’t just a rug, but also an antique.
This piece is believed to be a product of Kirman, an area of Persia famous for its talented carpet designers.
The prized Persian rug was from the William A. Clark Collection, bequeathed to the gallery in 1926.
William Clark was a politician and entrepreneur who had amassed a large collection of European and American art as well as rugs from the 16th and 17th centuries.
