N4. Silk Isfahan Rug – $4.45 Million
Not the most expensive carpet in the world, but the forth most expensive rug.
Sold in 2008 for $4.45 million it broke the record for the most expensive rug at that time. Look that times have changed!
Originally from the 16th century from central Persia this rug measures in at 7-feet-7-inches by 5-feet-7-inches.
Has limited use of red, green and blue, but that and despite its age, the rug sold for much more than anticipated, with an estimated price between $1 million and $1.5 million.
The exceptionally high knot density, the use of the colors, impeccable craftsmanship and the use of pure silk made this carpet sell for $4.45 million.
