4. Alfa Romeo 8C 2900 MM ($19.8 million)

This model from Alfa Romeo is the most expensive Alfa Romeo car ever sold in auction. Two years ago, RM Sotheby’s auction house of California witnessed this 1939 car snatched a $19.8-million bid.

Alfa Romeo 8C 2900 MM comes from the same series as the Alfa Romeo Monza we saw earlier on this list. While the original Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 came in the year of 1924, this one came in about thirteen years later.

MM stands for Mille Miglia, a racing competition which this car was designed for. It is powered by a 2.9-L supercharged twin-root engine which was designed by Vittorio Jano. As for the car’s body, the designer was Carrozzeria Touring.

With Clemente Biondetti’s hands on the steering wheel, the car won the 1938 Mille Miglia race. And that was the car’s racing debut. That year, Alfa Romeo, under Alfa Corse racing team, took over Scuderia Ferrari’s place in the championship, Enzo Ferrari included.
