5. Begum Blue ($7.8 million | $12.3 million today)
It was named Begum Blue after the centerpiece heart-shaped blue diamond and the former owner, Princess Begum Salima Aga Khan. The necklace was given to her by her husband, His Royal Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan IV.
Most jewelry gifted by the Prince to his wife was especially designed for her by world’s greatest designers. Among them are Harry Winston, Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Bulgari, Tiffay-Schlumberger, Boucheron, Buccelati and Marina B. However, the designer of this necklace has not been identified. But it is believed to be one of those designers.
After Princess Salima and Prince Karim got divorced in 1995, she decided to sell all of her jewelry collection for charity, including this one. Then, back in November 1995, this was auctioned at Christie’s Geneva and sold to Laurence Graff for $7,790,708 (or $12,309,266 today).
It features a fancy 13.78-carat deep blue heart-shaped diamond. Also, it has a 16.04-carat D-color heart-shaped diamond. Both of them are suspending from a necklace made of 41 heart-shaped colorless diamonds.
