And the most expensive food in the world is a Diamond Christmas Cake from Tokyo!
You read it right. This cake is worth $1.72 million. Jeong Hong-yong, a sweets chef, designed and developed this cake for six months. Then, it took him one month to make it.
So, what is inside this super expensive food? It is basically a double-layer, marzipan-coated fruitcake. While other chefs dress their cake with fondant or icing, chef Jeong used diamonds. He used 223 diamonds, to be exact. With a total of 173 carats, these diamonds are definitely the reason behind this cake’s staggering price.
The Diamond Christmas Cake was displayed in an exhibit called Diamond: Nature’s Miracle. It was at Takashimaya Department Store back in 2005.
