2. Taj Mahal, India ($25 billion)
Not many people know that Taj Mahal is actually a tomb. Some think it is just a mosque. It is actually named the Tomb of Mumtaz Mahal.
It lies on the south bank of the Yamuna River in Agra, India. Shah Jahan, a Mughal emperor, built the tomb in 1632 for his late wife, Mumtaz Mahal. The tomb itself lies in the center of a 42-acre plot. Beneath, lays Mumtaz Mahal.
The tomb was mostly built of white marble. Like most Mughal architectural building, it is a square building with arch and large domes. It has something to do with the Persian heritage.
The Taj Mahal complex consists of the tomb, mosque, garden, and guest house. It took 21 years to complete by a team of over 20,000 stone workers. And it cost 32 million Rupees. Back then, it was around $500,000. That is $25 billion today.
