13. Disneyland Park Complex, California, USA ($3.3 billion)
This Disneyland may not be the most expensive man made attraction. In fact, it is not even the most expensive Disneyland ever built. However, this one is the most historical as it was the only one built under the direct supervision of Walt Disney himself.
It was originally named Disneyland. But it was changed to Disneyland Park to distinguish itself from the other parts of the complex and other Disneyland attractions out there.
Disneyland, the park, cost $17 million to build in 1955. That is about $116 million in today’s dollars. The Space Mountain ride, which opened in 1977, cost more than half of that amount. Then in the 1990s, they expanded the park into a complex of resort and themed lands.
Today, there are eight themed lands occupying around 85 acres area. These lands and the resort area added the construction cost combined to $3.3 billion. And soon that number will grow since a new 14-acre Star Wars themed land will join the army. May the force be with you!
