N5. 1939 BMW RS 255 Kompressor — $480,000
This motorcycle was sold at a Bonhams auction in 2013 for $480,000 making it one of the most expensive bikes sold at auction.
The bike was a private project produced by BMW that built a motorcycle engine using parts directly from the BMW factory.
Using the influence of its original owner Walter Zeller, BMW produced a motorcycle engine that came with a supercharger and planned on putting it on their company’s racing bikes.
But then the War World II came and the engines were never placed on production bikes. But after the war ended, BMW was able to finally release their state-of-the-art engine.
Breaking the record that year (1951) with the first supercharged engine placed on a racing bike.
