N2. 1954 AJS E95 Porcupine — $675,000
This model was specifically built as a racing motorcycle. They began building the Porcupines in 1949. AJS weren’t so successful because of the problems they had with carburetors.
In 1954 they solved their problems and launched a second generation model. The second generation models turned out to be very successful and gave Great Britain its first Grand Prix Championship victory.
But they only made four of these motorcycles that year. This bike was actually the centerpiece of the England’s National Motorcycle Museum for years until it was sold at Bonhams auctions in 2011 for $675,000.
Which is why, the bike is the second most expensive motorcycle sold at auction.
