11. Porsche 962C ($1.65 million)
Earlier, we see cars that were built from the same materials of a race car, or powered by the same engine as it is. Now, we are looking at the real deal. Porsche 962C was actually used in 24 Hours of Le Mans race, the world’s most historical race.
For about a decade, the Porsche racing team won several 24 Hours of Le Mans races consecutively. As its charm blew fans’ minds, some privateer teams and tuners began converting this model for road use. Thus, Porsche 962C started to hit the automobile market. One of them reached Jerry Seinfeld’s garage.
If I were attending the Gooding & Co. auction a few months ago, this 1990’s car would probably be the one that amazed me most. Only Formula 1 and MotoGP fans like me would understand why.
One of them was lucky enough to win the bid and took home this beauty after spending $1.65 million. I just hope he is enjoying his 3.2-liter 4-cylinder DOHC engine on the road rather than just displaying the car in his garage.
