7. Porsche 911 GT1 Road Car ($2.2 million)
One of the reasons behind car racing events, except Formula car races, is to showcase the best and fastest sports car. These events, especially the endurance races, are where we can see those cars tested to the limit.
However, it seems to work the other way around for this particular automobile manufacturer. Porsche first came up with their race car and then made the road car version to meet the minimum required production to be eligible for those races. This case applies to Porsche 911 GT1.
The Porsche 911 GT1 was designed to compete in the GT1 race class. After several trials and failure to repeat Porsche’s success in GT2 race class, finally this GT1 champion was born in 1998.
The limited-production street-legal version was labeled the 911 GT1 Straßenversion (Street version). This $2.2 million car is powered by a 3.2-liter 4-cylinder DOHC twin-turbo engine.
