2. Rolex Split-Seconds Chronograph 4113 ($2.45 million)
Topping the Paul Newman’s Daytona 6239 is this Rolex Split-Seconds Chronograph 4113. They were both sold earlier this year at the same auction event, Phillips’ stainless steel chronograph auction.
This particular watch shattered the previous record by half a million dollar. Sold at $2.45 million, it became the most expensive Rolex. But that record only lasted for a couple of months. Now, it has to settle for second place.
The split-seconds chronograph is the most complicated of all chronographs. It features two sweep seconds hands. This allows you to precisely time intermediate events while still keeping track of the overall elapsed time.
This feature first appeared in vintage pocket watches back in the late 1800s. With this particular Rolex watch, you can go vintage in style and luxury.
