And the most expensive Rolex watch shattered the record even further with a staggering $3.5 million. That is more than one million dollar more expensive than the previous record.
The 1958 Rolex GMT Master was sold just a few months ago at Phillips auction house, in Geneva.
This watch was made in 18K gold. One of its distinctive features is its striking Bakelite cognac-brown bezel. It is rare because most Rolex GMT watches were made in stainless steel instead of gold.
For 58 years, this Rolex GMT Master was preserved in its unrestored and original condition. Seven years ago, this watch was up for sale. But the price didn’t make it to the most expensive Rolex watches list.
