4) Curiosity- $2.5 billion
As you may know by now, Curiosity is one of the most expensive space projects and missions, as well as one of the most expensive science experiments.
This robot is a Mars explorer which landed on the planet in August of 2012 as a part of NASA’s larger Mars Exploration program.
Its objective was to study the geology and climate of the planet and investigate whether the planet has ever had an environment where life could have been possible.
While doing that, Curiosity is also looking at the habitability of Mars, in case the future humans want to explore the neighbor planet.
The cost of Curiosity’s mission was $2.5 billion, $8 for every American.
