2. Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation – Sold for: $3.7m
Some of the most expensive signed merchandise is globally historical, rather than part of a sports niche. Only 26 of the original 48 copies of Lincoln’s 1863 signed Emancipation Proclamation still exist, and one in particular was sold for an incredible $3.7 million in 2012.
The Emancipation Proclamation was issued by Lincoln on New Years Day, 1863 to change the status of 3 million American slaves, making them legally free. This isn’t the original version, several copies were created and signed by Lincoln as fundraising items a year later.
One of the most famous documents in American history, to David Rubenstein, the manager of a New York investment firm. The seller remained anonymous.
