3. Pierre Cardin in the Mingsha Shan desert – S/S 2008
By far one of the most impressive spectacles on this list, the Pierre Cardin show of 2008 was set up on the Silk Road, the Mingsha Mountain desert, with a purpose-built runway on the dunes.
The Silk Road was a trade route which ran throughout Asia, and involved the sale of silk (yes, you got it) to various different nations. Fittingly, Pierre Cardin’s 200 silk creations were paraded over this iconic desert in front of an astonishing 200,000 guests, who went to a lot of effort to secure their place in the audience.
