A house on a plinth
The site is a steep corner plot above a busy provincial road. The architects raised the main living level on a plinth, set partly into the slope, to win privacy and cut noise. The ground floor holds guest bedrooms, a gym, a study and a garage.
Landscaping was also a priority; 7 yellow wood trees were soften the verge and lush vegetation conceals retaining structures; on the level above a more formal lawn helps relocate the living areas on their elevated plinth.
Fragmented upper floors
The upper floors are set back, split into pieces and rotated around a sheltered central terrace. A glass bridge links the pieces and lets north light in. Overhangs, external sliding shutters and perforated steel and aluminium eaves handle the sun.
