Those features we have mentioned so far are designed to create a car that is light yet powerful. We know that this is a huge homework for electric car manufacturers. Because we also know that battery is not as strong as fossil fuel in terms of delivering power and efficiency. At least for now. I have faith in this world-changing technology.
So, the secret of building a fast electric car lies within its material. Because the lighter the car, the faster it can go. That is why Formula E cars are so much lighter than Formula 1 cars.
Of course you can try to maximize the car’s power instead. But the thing about battery is that bigger power means bigger size. And in the other hand, the car size is limited to an extent.
We mentioned earlier that NIO EP9 applies carbon fiber technology. This material is 70% lighter than steel, yet it offers equal durability especially in the case of fire hazard.
NIO EP9 weighs 165 kg only. But it can deliver power as big as one MegaWatt at the wheels through its powertrain.
