1. Proven as the fastest electric car in the world.
NextEV NIO did not just bluff when they said they want to build the fastest electric car in the world. And they mean business in proving us just that. The best way to do that is by testing the car on a track designed for speed. So a few weeks ago, NIO EP9 took on the challenge to set a lap time at Nürburgring race track, in Germany.
The previous lap record for electric car was set by Toyota four years ago. It was 7:22.329. We are talking about the classic circuit here, not the modern Gran Prix layout. The classic Nürburgring race track is 20.8-km long. And it takes around five minutes for a Formula 1 car to complete a lap here.
So, how did NIO EP9 do? 7:05.120.
That is the fastest lap record for electric car. And that is around seventeen seconds faster than the previous record. However, for your information, one of the leading electric car companies, Tesla, has yet to set a lap record here. Or anywhere else. It seems like they are not interested in motorsport.
Unfortunately, NIO EP9 will only be sold in China. We may not be able to really experience it, but at least it gives us the idea of NextEV NIO’s cars quality.
