#8 United California Bank Robbery
24th March 1972- USA: $30 million est.
You might think that $30 million is a small price compared to this other monsters on this list, but I have to remind you that this happened back in 1972.
And by today’s standards, and inflation adjusted, it would be worth more than $100 million. Back then the amount has broken a record.
Seven men from Ohio, led by Amil Dinsio, broke into a branch of the United California Bank in Laguna Niguel, California and emptied the safe deposit vault.
Because of the nature of safe deposit boxes and their undeclared contents, only an estimate is possible. They were eventually caught by the FBI.
One of the men involved, Phil Christopher, has written an account of the robbery in the book Superthief, but that’s all the information we’ve got regarding this subject.
