N3. Alice in Wonderland: $1.03 Billion
The 1865 novel has seen some adaptations. Written by English author Charles Lutwidge Dodgson under the pseudonym Lewis Carroll, the book is one of the best-selling novels of all times.
It is the story of a girl named Alice falling through a rabbit hole into a fantasy world populated by peculiar, anthropomorphic creatures.
The tale plays with logic, giving the story lasting popularity with adults as well as with children and it is considered to be one of the best examples of the literary nonsense genre.
Its film adaptation was directed by Tim Burton in 2010, and it doesn’t follow the book as much as it springs off of it.
