Rudolf Nureyev was one of the most celebrated ballet dancers of the 20th century.
He was born in the Soviet Union and he defected to the west to follow his dream of becoming a dancer even though the KGB trying to stop him.
He had an important role in reinforcing the role of the ballet male dancer with the help of his artistic skills that explored expressive areas of the dance.
Because of this talent and appearances, he became an instant sensation.
Nureyev’s first appearance in the United Kingdom was at a ballet matinée organized by The Royal Ballet’s Prima Ballerina Dame Margot Fonteyn, where he danced Poeme Tragique and theBlack Swan pas de deux from Swan Lake.
After that, he was offered a contract to join The Royal Ballet as Principal Dancer.
He died in 1993 on one of his private island.
