2. Jose Mourinho – Manchester United ($17.7 million annual salary)
The biggest headline of this summer’s football transfer is not just about the players. It is also about the manager. Two main stories come from both Portugal national team and a Portuguese football manager, Jose Mourinho.
Mourinho signed a $17.7 million per year contract with Manchester United, replacing the man he looked up to, Louis Van Gaal. Mourinho lifted United fans’ hearts and broke Chelsea fans’ hearts at the same time.
I’m sure Mourinho didn’t mean to hurt Chelsea fans. If anything, it is the Chelsea management he wanted to avenge. Well, you cannot blame the man. The club sacked him hard. Twice.
Yes, he was sacked because Chelsea was trailing from other major clubs. But don’t they remember how Mourinho brought Chelsea to win the English Premier League for the first time since anyone could even remember?
Mourinho has started this season well by taking Manchester United to win the FA Community Shield. I cannot wait to watch his first encounter against Chelsea this season.
