10. Rafael Benitez – Newcastle United ($5.8 million annual salary)
The name Rafael Benitez rose above after successfully coached Valencia and took on the challenge to manage Liverpool back in 2004. He brought Liverpool to clinch their European Champions League trophy after AC Milan defeated through a penalty shootout from three goals deficit in the first half. Boy, that was such a memorable match.
Unfortunately, Benitez didn’t go along with Liverpool’s new owner. He was dismissed by the year of 2010. Well, dismissal seems to be Benitez’ middle name. As he was supposed to take on one of the biggest challenges in his managerial career with Real Madrid, he was again dismissed even before finishing one whole season.
It is a dream comes true for a Spaniard coach to manage a legendary Spaniard team. That must be what Benitez thought as he joined the club in June, 2015. However, in just seven months afterwards, he was sacked. Both the players and the supporters didn’t like him. And he was not showing good results either.
So, he moved back to English Premier League by joining Newcastle United last March. The Magpies is currently paying him $5.8 million per year.
