Pleasantville (1998) brought an interesting collision of the open-minded world of two siblings with the 1950s black and white sitcom world. Joan Allen played the role of American Stepford Wife in a suppressed small town of Pleasantville, Betty Parker.
Jesse, played by Reese Witherspoon, sat down with her and other wives. She taught them how to pleasure themselves. After some times, Betty spent a quality time with herself in a bathtub.
Of course, it was 1998. So, sexuality was not exposed as bluntly as today. We could not see what Betty was doing. But we could tell she was taking some time out from her wifely duties.
Joan Allen is now 59 years old. She has been nominated three times for the Oscars. She was in the same movie with Annabeth Gish, Nixon.
