The top 10, ranked

1. Beyoncé

Beyoncé tops our list because no one has combined stage presence, style and commercial results as consistently. Her album Cowboy Carter (2024) topped the Billboard 200 and won Album of the Year at the 67th Grammy Awards in February 2025. She holds a record 35 Grammy Awards. Her Cowboy Carter Tour ran for 32 concerts from 28 April to 26 July 2025 and grossed $407.6 million, and it was named the highest-grossing tour of 2025.

Her earlier run is documented too: she is the only woman whose first eight studio albums each debuted atop the Billboard 200. For her joint tour with Jay-Z, see our On The Run article.

2. Rihanna

From the Barbados pop star of the 2000s to a business owner, Rihanna has reinvented her image more often than anyone on this list. She has 14 number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100 and has sold an estimated 250 million records. She launched the lingerie brand Savage X Fenty in 2018, with a show at New York Fashion Week.

She headlined the Super Bowl LVII halftime show on 12 February 2023, her first live performance in over five years, and was nominated for an Oscar for “Lift Me Up”. In 2025 she voiced Smurfette in Smurfs. Her fashion moments are famous: the crystal-covered dress at the CFDA Awards, where she won the Fashion Icon Award, became a legend of its own.

3. Shakira

Shakira is the world tour story of 2025-2026. Her album Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, released on 22 March 2024, was her first in seven years and debuted at number one in Argentina and Spain. Her world tour started on 11 February 2025 in Rio de Janeiro and is scheduled to end on 28 November 2026 in Giza, Egypt.

By January 2026 it had earned over $421.6 million from its first 86 concerts, a Guinness World Record for the highest-grossing Latin tour of all time. Her hits include “Hips Don’t Lie”, “Waka Waka” and “Can’t Remember to Forget You” with Rihanna.

4. Katy Perry

Katy Perry rose to fame with “I Kissed a Girl” (2008), and she built her image on bright colours, humour and theatrical costumes. Her seventh album, 143, came out on 20 September 2024.

Her Lifetimes Tour ran for 91 shows from 23 April to 7 December 2025. In April 2025 she flew to space aboard Blue Origin NS-31. She was a judge on American Idol from 2018 to 2024.

5. Lana Del Rey

Lana Del Rey is the glam-vintage voice of her generation. Her major-label album Born to Die (2012) holds the record for the longest-charting album by a woman in the history of the Billboard 200.

Releases since include Chemtrails over the Country Club (2021) and an album with the title Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd. She describes herself as a “self-styled gangsta Nancy Sinatra”.

6. Nicole Scherzinger

Nicole Scherzinger first became known through the Pussycat Dolls and has since built a second career on stage. She won the 2024 Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical for playing Norma Desmond in the 2023 West End revival of Sunset Boulevard.

When the show transferred to Broadway, she won the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical in 2025. She has also been a judge on The X Factor and The Masked Singer US.

7. Rita Ora

Rita Ora became famous in 2012 when DJ Fresh’s “Hot Right Now” topped the UK singles chart. Born in Pristina, in modern-day Kosovo, she was one of the first artists signed to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation, and in 2015 she was named an honorary ambassador of Kosovo.

Television judging has become a second job as well as a singer: The Masked Singer UK (2020 to 2024) and The Masked Singer US (2024 to present).

8. Ciara

Ciara was spotted for her songwriting by producer Jazze Pha, and became known for her dance-led performances. Her seventh album, Beauty Marks (2019), was her first independent release and included the platinum single “Level Up”.

Her career has widened into modelling and acting, including playing Nettie in the 2023 remake of The Color Purple. She released the EP CiCi in 2023.

9. Ellie Goulding

Ellie Goulding’s debut album Lights (2010) debuted at number one in the UK, and “Burn” was her first UK number-one single in 2013. Her breathy, distinctive voice sets her apart.

Her album Brightest Blue (2020) became her third UK number-one album. Honours include two Brit Awards and the Impact Award from Time 100 for using her platform to protect the environment.
