5. Coca-Cola Was Once Marketed As a Nerve Tonic
Its creator was wounded in the Civil War and became addicted to morphine, so he created a safe substitute for the morphine.
The first Coca-Cola recipe was intended to be a coca wine and was made at a drugstore in Columbus, Georgia.
Later that time (in 1885), Colonel John Pemberton’s creation was registered as a nerve tonic. It became a medicine that could supposedly cure several diseases, including morphine addiction, neurasthenia, dyspepsia, headaches, and even impotence.
But those times are long gone, because today Coca-Cola is marketed simply as a refreshing beverage with no medical properties.
