6. Media = Rita Skeeter
It is pretty obvious that JK Rowling doesn’t have a good relation with the media. The press accused her of being a recluse and hating interviews. But she said that she is just thin-skinned and doesn’t like the fickle nature of reporting.
And Rowling is pretty straightforward about this. Oftentimes, she filed lawsuits against the media for all sorts of reasons. She had filed at least fifty of them. And most of them were cases of privacy.
Among all media, Rowling had the biggest feud with Daily Mail. The British tabloid once interviewed Arantes, her allegedly abusive ex-husband. So, she stated her objection openly. And she even made Uncle Vernon, Harry’s little-brained uncle, a loyal reader of the tabloid. Revenge is best served cold indeed.
Rowling’s dislike towards media also inspired her to create Rita Skeeter. You can see how gossipy, unpleasant, and exaggerating this journalist character is.
