7. Suffered from domestic abuse?
Because she hadn’t written any book to sell, JK Rowling needed a job to keep on living. She found a teaching job ad on newspaper and decided to move to Porto, Portugal. There, she taught English at night and wrote during the day.
Years gone by, she met a TV journalist, Jorge Arantes. The two got together and married in 1992. Soon after that, a baby girl was born. But even sooner after that, the two separated.
After the split, Rowling moved back to Scotland with her baby girl. Arantes followed her and tried to find her and the baby. Then, Rowling obtained a restraining order against him so he returned back to Portugal.
Biographers believe that she was suffering from domestic abuse. That is why she divorced him in such manner. And that is why she had to get a restraining order. But as mentioned earlier, Rowling is keeping her private life away from public. And as you can tell, she has never weighed in on this subject.
