9. Bedarra Island, Australia
This small island was a part of the Australia’s mainland before the sea level began to rise thousands of years ago. It was just the heart of Family Islands National Park until Noel Wood bought it eight decades ago.
The Australian landscape artist turned the eastern part of the island into a luxury tourist destination. However, he was not the only one who contributed in turning the island into the world’s beauty.
Who doesn’t know Great Barrier Reef? It has been listed as World Heritage Park because of another artist’s work, John Busst.
After several changes of ownership, from individuals to corporations, the island is owned by the Charlton Hotel group today. And after renovations, the Bedarra Island Resort has just been reopened three years ago.
