What was the design challenge?
The challenge was to design a modern home within the traditional environs of Essex
The house takes the Connecticut River views from the east and views of Essex village from the north. The south and west sides are placed to give privacy from the street and neighbors.
” This concept of dual views (to the East and to the North) drove the design of the floor plans. By stepping the masses of the house, all major rooms within the house (including the Art Studio) take advantage of this double exposure. “
What is inside?
” The simple interior finish palette reinforces the framing of the views as well as serving as the backdrop for the display of the owners’ extensive modern art collection. “
The Art Studio sits above the garage, has its own private bath and connects to the main house through an enclosed glass connector. The wine cellar is in the basement, in a climate-controlled space with a tasting area.
