3. His view on abortion rights
Abortion is a delicate and highly controversial issue. And for the last several decades, it has been one of the most contentious social issues. So, where does Michael Bloomberg stand on this?
Bloomberg believes that reproductive choice should be a fundamental right for women in America. Every woman has the right to choose whether or not she wants to reproduce. So, he is a pro-choice, not pro-life.
For this, he supports governmental funding for embryonic stem cell research. This early-stage preimplantation embryo has the potential to help cell replacement therapies. It may be able to fix un-repaired DNA damages to avoid mutation which can lead into cancer. But the research has been hindered by the abortion issues.
As a Republican, Bloomberg withdrew his support for Mitt Romney and backed his opposition, President Obama, instead due to his stance on abortion.
“Reproductive choice is a fundamental human right and we can never take it for granted. On this issue, you’re either with us or against us.” – Michael Bloomberg
