If you say “global warming is a hoax” in front of Michael Bloomberg’s face, he would probably smack your head (at least with his strong arguments). Because Bloomberg has been a world-renowned environmental advocate.
As mentioned before, one of his biggest donation contributions was for Sierra Club’s campaign to shut down coal-fired power plants in the United States. And Bloomberg’s funding boosted their efforts from just 15 states to 45.
For three years since 2010, Bloomberg served as the chairman of the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group. It is a group of world’s biggest cities working together to fight global warming by reducing carbon emissions. His work through this group caught Ban Ki-moon’s attention as the UN Secretary General appointed him as his first Special Envoy for cities and Climate Change.
These are just the tips of the iceberg for Bloomberg’s work on environmental issues. He has made a lot of contribution on this, especially on pushing the use of sustainable energy.
