7. 9/11 response
One of the hardest things Michael Bloomberg had to handle as a mayor was the 9/11. He might have not been the Mayor of New York City when the tragedy struck, but it happened just a few months before he was elected. So, he was pretty much responsible for helping the city recover from the tragedy.
As a new mayor, his main job was to keep the fearful city safe. That is not easy to do. As soon as he stepped into the office, he set up a Counter-terrorism Bureau. It works along with NYPD to gather worldwide leads on terrorism affecting the city.
And to help the people feel safe and prevent any other terrorist attack, Bloomberg started a campaign. It is called If you see something, say something. It encouraged people to call the police through a specific line in case they see anything suspicious around the city.
This campaign helped preventing a car bomb from exploding in Times Square back in 2010. A street vendor noticed something suspicious and called the police through the given number.
