Michael Jordan’s Nike Airs Sold for a Almost $100k
Michael Jordan’s Nike Airs sell at an auction with more than 30 years after they were worn during a game.
A pair of Nike shoes that the famous American former basketball player wore during his rookie season was sold for $71,000.
Everybody knows that fan collectibles always sell big, even if they are smelly old shoes worn by Michel Jordan.
The white leather canvas with a red Nike Swoosh logo and a red upper heel sneakers were worn by the star in a Chicago Bulls winning game against Los Angeles Lakers during the 1984-85 season.
The last time Jordan wore the sneakers was Dec. 2, 1984, at a game the Bulls played against host team Los Angeles Lakers.
The pair were then autographed by the star and given to a Lakers ball boy, Khalid Ali, who asked Jordan for shoes right after the game.
Ali says he snuck into the locker room where Jordan kept his promise of handing his “game” shoes over. The sneakers, which come with a detailed letter of authenticity, were then stored away in Ali’s closet until they were auctioned off Sunday.
The only game that Jordan played against the Lakers at the Great Western Forum that season was on Dec. 2 when he dropped 20 points in a 113-112 victory.
Khalid recently parted with the pair when he put the shoes up for sale through SCP Auctions. He was one lucky kid and I’m sure the goodbye was a though one.
Michael Jordan’s famed Air Jordans have taken on a life of their own and have become one of the hottest commodities in the sporting world.
However, this pair, as pricy as it might seem, wasn’t the most expensive Jordan-worn memorabilia to be sold.
The sneakers worn by the star for one of the most memorable ‘Flu Game’ in the 1997 NBA Finals, apparently sold for $104,800 in 2013.
“These are very rare shoes indeed,” said SCP Auctions spokesman Dan Imler. “Jordan actually handed these to the attending Lakers’ ball boy after the game and they have stayed in his possession for the past 31 years. Their provenance is flawless.”
Bidding for the pair began on April 8, 2015 at SCP Auctions and push beyond $50,000 as it was previously expected. The auction closed on Saturday, April 25.
Just like other sport memorabilia, these Nike Shoes were bought by an avid fan of the famous basketball players, Michael Jordan.
