This year is the year of smartwatches, the year where the wearable gadgets take the stage.
We’ve already seen Apple doing all this of crazy gadgets including their Smartwatch. But this one is different.
How you may ask? Well, besides from being a bad ass smartwatch it is also a first. No one has ever created a modular smartwatch. Until now!
At the CES 2015 Block Wearables bought something new and unique on the market of watches.
It is the first modular smartwatch that lets users to completely customize it for a better experience.
After we’ve seen that the modular smartphone was already on the market, it was naturally that someone will think to make a modular smartwatch.
Modularity for watches is kind of the next big thing. Considering the fact that wearable gadgets are very personal devices it was naturally that a customizable and efficient smartwatch will be in place.
Being able to customize your gadgets is amazing, is the next closest thing to building your lifestyle.
And because this technology is still new, there are new versions of the products being launched every few months, so it is more amazing that the modularity brings a huge plus in that area.
Blocks designers and engineers came up with this concept after months and months of research. All they did was come up with an idea and then get to work.
They built a simple display, procession, motion sensor and temperature sensor blocks so they could connect them in any combination needed.
By doing that Blocks didn’t built the perfect device, they made it in a way that you could create the perfect device.
Even the look of your device is customizable because each block now has removable covers.
It also means that you can set up an open design store.
The company used a processing chip from Intel, so the smartwatches can have extended battery life. Plus, the device has a fingerprint scanner, cameras, GPS and many other awesome features so you could transform the watch into a top fitness tracker.
The devices are currently configured to be compatible with Android operating systems. The company’s goal is to eventually allow you to simply replace the blocks in the system and easily add new features instead of having to buy new units.
The project is still in the early prototype stages, though a Kickstarter is scheduled to pop up for the project later this year.
We are excited to see how the first modular smartwatch is going to sell and what the critics will say about it.
