I’m surprised this city is still on the map.
Mogadishu, also known locally as Xamar, is the capital and the largest city in Somalia.
It was until recently rated as the most dangerous city in the world and it should come as no surprise given the fact that the UN and embassies pulled out in the 90s, right after the collapse of the last functioning government.
And I said I am surprised that the city still exists because from 2007 until last year, the Al-Qaeda militants terrorized the city and basically ruled it.
That eventually came to an end in August 2013 when African Union fighters removed Al-Shabab and put an end to the war days.
