1. Dynasty Collection: $8,032,800
Six pairs, one for each Bulls championship-clinching game: Air Jordan VI, VII, VIII, XI, XII and XIV. All game-worn and signed, with a documented chain of custody from Jordan to the buyer. Sotheby’s sold the set in February 2024. It is not a single pair, so the Last Dance shoes below remain the single-pair record. The price includes the buyer’s premium, as reported.
2. “Last Dance” Jordan 13: $2,238,000
Jordan wore a size 13 “Bred” pair in the second half of Game 2 of the 1998 NBA Finals in Utah on June 5, 1998, a game Chicago won with Jordan scoring 37. He gave them to a ball boy after the game. The ball boy sold them in 2020 for $215,000, and the next owner took them to Sotheby’s in April 2023, where they sold for $2.238 million against an estimate of $2 million to $4 million. That is more than ten times the 2020 price.
3. Nike Air Ship: $1,472,000
Jordan wore these in his fifth NBA game, on 1 November 1984, before the Air Jordan 1 went on sale. They sold at Sotheby’s in Las Vegas in October 2021 for $1.472 million with premium. One list gives a higher number, so we use the figure that most sources repeat.
4. “Flu Game” Jordan 12: $1,380,000
Worn in Game 5 of the 1997 NBA Finals, when Jordan played ill, and sold with the original game socks. The pair had brought $104,765 in 2013, so it multiplied its price more than tenfold in a decade. It sold at Sotheby’s in 2023 for $1.38 million.
5. “Shattered Backboard” Jordan 1: $615,000
Tied to a 1985 exhibition game in Trieste, Italy, and reportedly containing a glass fragment from the backboard. Sotheby’s sold them in 2020 for $615,000.
6. Jordan 1, rookie season: $560,000
A game-worn, signed pair from Jordan’s 1984 to 1985 rookie season, sold by Sotheby’s in May 2020 for $560,000. At the time it was a record for any sneaker at auction.
7. Jordan 13, scoring title: $352,800
Worn on 18 April 1998 when Jordan clinched his tenth scoring title against the Knicks. The shoes were given to Isiah Thomas, who passed them to his son. They sold at Sotheby’s in 2022 for $352,800.
8. Converse Fastbreak, 1984 Olympics: $190,373
Signed, and reportedly the last pair Jordan wore in a game as an amateur. Heritage Auctions sold them in 2017 for $190,373. They are the only non-Nike entry here.
Records set in 2025 and 2026
We could not find a new auction record for basketball shoes in 2025 or 2026. Our latest verified entry is the February 2024 Dynasty sale. Auction houses may have newer results.
What drives these prices
- Game-worn proof. A pair tied to a named game and photographed on court is worth a hundred times a retail pair.
- The moment. The Last Dance, Flu Game and rookie-year shoes sit on documented highlights.
- A single athlete. All eight entries link to Jordan, so the market is really one player’s wardrobe.
- Documentation. Sotheby’s chain-of-custody records keep buyers confident enough to bid in the millions.
