11890 Grand Watermelon Banknote – $3.2 million
Besides the fact that this is now the most expensive bill which every true collector would dream of it, the 1980 Grand Watermelon was sold for a such large amount of money, that it broke the previous record, set by the 1891 Red Seal $1.000 bill.
The banknote was sold for $3.2 million at an Orlando Auction, so don’t be sad, collectors! There is another one left, and available for you.
The second Grand Watermelon bill is at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco.
And do you find its name funny? The banknote got its nickname ‘Watermelon’ thanks of the stripes of green lines in the denomination number, making the ‘0’ look like watermelons.
