2. Shrek the Musical: $27.6 Million
The green giant is everyone’s favorite, isn’t it? Basically that’s the reason they decided to set a Broadway musical for Shrek.
It opened on Broadway on December 2008 and had a budget of $27.6 million.
With all the popularity of the character the show still did badly. The critics and the audience didn’t take very well the adaptation of such a beloved character.
After playing for less and less people, the show closed after a little over a year. But that doesn’t make it any less expensive, in fact is ranked two as one of the most expensive Broadway musicals.
