6. Bugatti Royale Berline de Voyage ($6.5 million)
Vintage cars can really bring you decades back or remind you of some Oscar-winning movies. Whichever this car do, it broke the world record of most expensive car sold at auction. Three decades ago, at Kruse International of Nevada, this Bugatti Royale Berline de Voyage was sold for $6.5 million to Jerry J. Moore. After inflation, that amount is worth more than $14 million today.
Bugatti Royale is the Type 41 model produced from the late 1920s to early 1930s. It is known as the car for aristocrats and royals, which is what Ettore aimed to achieve. His plan was to manufacture 25 units of Royale. Unfortunately, due to economic crisis, only three of them were sold.
One of them is this Berline de Voyage with chassis number 41150. And this car has gone places. During the World War II, it was hidden from the Nazi at the Bugatti family home. Then it was sold Briggs Cunningham, Le Mans race car driver.
Today, the car is on display at Blackhawk Collection of California. The last private owner of the car was Tom Monaghan, the founder of Domino’s Pizza, who bought it from Jerry J. Moore.
