4. Bugatti Type 57SC Atalante ($9 million)
When legendary meets rarity, a recipe for most expensive car is formed. This is the other one of two rare Bugatti Type 57SC Atalante cars. And this one hit the Gooding & Company auction house in California, United States four years ago.
One buyer bid this 57523 chassis number car for $8,745,000 (or around $9 million today). And this one was also built in 1937.
Bugatti Atalante cars are powered by a 8-cylinder in-line engine which produces 135 hp. It was one of the fastest cars at its time. And that is why this model became one of the most legendary Bugatti racing cars, The Type 57G Tank.
The name Atalante was inspired by Atlanta, a heroine of Greek mythology. She was a young huntress. And it is believed that she was the fastest woman in Greece. Thus, the name suits what this car embodies: beauty and speed.
