3. Bugatti Type 57SC Sports Tourer ($9.7 million)
Last year, this Bugatti Type 57SC Sports Tourer hit Bonhams auction house in Florida, United States. The 1937 car with 57541 chassis number was sold at $9,735,000.
The car is powered by a 3.2-L DOHC 8-cylinder engine which produces 200 hp at 4,500 rpm. And it is the result of Vanden Plas’s coachwork in the late 1920s. Pictures dating back to the year of 1937 show that this car was likely to be used for ARCA races in New York.
During the World War II, the car seemed to vanish until it showed up on sale at Continental Cars garage in England under the possession of Rodney Clarke. Then it was sold to Jack Robinson who brought the car to Trinidad where he kept it for more than thirty years.
Even though it has gone through several restorations, it is still remarkable for a car from pre-war era to survive the war intact to date. This Bugatti Sports Tourer is one of the lucky few to have unbroken chain of protective owners.
