1. Bugatti Type 55 ($10.4 million)
And the most expensive Bugatti car ever sold is the 1932 Bugatti Type 55. This is the road-version of Type 51 Grand Prix car. So, basically it is a touring car with a Grand Prix engine.
Also known as the Jean Bugatti Roadster, Bugatti Type 55 has one of the best and most robust Bugatti chassis ever made. This is mainly because the chassis was actually designed for a 16-cylinder-engined car while this one has a smaller one, 8-cylinder engine.
There were only thirteen of this roadsters made. However, Jean Bugatti also designed the coupe version which nine of them were produced.
Last year, one of the roadster version cars was sold at Gooding & Company auction house in California, United States. The car with 55213 chassis number went to a buyer with a whopping $10.4 million bid.
