These Are the Most Expensive Chairs in the World

1The Dragons Chair – Price: $27.8 million

Created in 1971 by Irish designer Eileen Gray, the Dragons Chair was at Christie’s auction house, where it was expected to fetch a price between $2 million to $3 million.

Eventually, the chair was sold for a whopping $27.8 million to Yves Saint Laurent, the founder of the fashion brand that bears the same name, occupying the #1 position in our top 10 list of the world’s most expensive chairs.

As you can see in the image, the chair is upholstered in brown leather and features a lacquered brownish frame made of wood.

The dragon has a history in Chinese iconography as a symbol of strength and goodness, with the power to protect and to guard.

And, as you already figured it out, the chair has not one, but two dragons with eyes in black lacquer on a white ground and with bodies decorated in low relief with clouds.

This concludes our cover on the most expensive chairs in the world!
