2. 1936 Bugatti 57SC Atlantic -$40 million
The price was undisclosed and it was speculated to reach $40 million. This is one of the rarest classic cars since only 4 of them were ever made and two or three are still around for us to appreciate.
One of the models is owned by Ralph Lauren and another belonged to Dr. Peter Williamson. The car was bought by an anonymous bidder at the Gooding Classic Cars Auction in Santa Monica.
Firstly purchased by Lord Philippe de Rothschild in 1936, it would run up to 123mph. The model was later on ‘pimped’ with a supercharger in 1939,boosting the power of its 3.3-litre inline eight to a heady 210bhp.
Since 1971, it was owned by collector Peter Williamson, who restored the Atlantic to its original color after some previous owner decided to paint it red.
