Columbia University is not only the oldest higher-learning institution in New York, but also the fifth oldest in the country as it was founded in 1754 as King’s College.
Since 1901, numerous notable alumni walked through these gates: three US presidents, more than 100 Nobel Prize laureates, nine justices of the United States Supreme Court and more than 20 Academy Award winners.
The university also completes in NCAA Division I athletics, proudly showing off their school mascot, the Lion. Because that’s what they are indeed.
And I found out something really funny and interesting about this university; it is called the Primal Scream. The Sunday before the last week of finals exams, all the students are allowed to go to their windows at midnight and just shout for five minutes in order to release their stress. Wonder if that ever works.
